United for Warm Homes
Day of action 18th November photo op and petitioned outside the sports centre in Eckington. Mary handed over the petition to Lee Rowley and a local meeting, he was impressed with the numbers of signatories and recognised an old dinner lady’s name.
Next stage; can still add names to the petition, Mary has closed but will open again. Build alliances with other organisations. Work on electoral candidates particularly Louise Jones. Plan a timeline for next year. Need to find out who the other candidates are.
Action: Mary to email Frank and Ed to find out who candidates are for election for green and Lib Dem’s
CRAB
Anne approached NEDDC, positive but no money. Happy to support promotion and meeting space. Nigel asked community and voluntary support organisations, Bolsover CBS, interested but not heard anything from new person in post. Emailed Sandra Pink from Links CBS, no money but supportive. Chesterfield climate forum brings together businesses and now have contact for the councillor who leads that.
Four winds energy coop possible funders. Need to be within 5 miles of wind turbine at Duckmanton. They will fund £400-5000. Could possibly fund other relevant activities eg Marches van. Simple application process. Just need to be constituted. First application doesn’t need a bank account. Will need one, Nigel asks if Metro is a viable option. Could be an alternative to the Credit Union. Need a statement in minutes to confirm by group decision. Nearest bank in Fargate, can open instantly if you have paperwork in place. If the Credit Union doesn’t come through by January it is suggested we go for this option, to be confirmed in the January meeting.
Nigel to draft a funding proposal to be discussed in January.
Mayoral campaign
Clare Ward the Labour candidate is meeting representatives for the area to look at eg HS2, public transport, in January. Then strategy for Ben Bradley. Keep an eye on what is happening.
Fuel Action
Organised by Unite and Fuel Poverty. Joint event, had a stall in Vicar lane and spoke to people. Would be good to link with the campaign if it’s active. Mary to email the Unite Secretary to see what is happening and if they want to work with us.
Update on divestment
On the NEDDC agenda, Anne sent Derbyshire Dales motion to them.
Social media
Need a young person who is interested in environmental issues to post on Instagram and X. Need someone who would like to help a community organisation. Richard suggests using AI, Nigel thinks need to be careful with AI as google will downgrade sites generated like this. Discussion to be continued at the next meeting.
Next meeting: 17th January 2024 at 7pm Community of Christ Church, TBC.
